WHAT IS THE LANDY RALLY

The Landy Rally is 3,500 mile road run encompassing 11 countries in 9 days, this non-speed event comprising a maximum of 100 teams of which Kevin’s team is one of them, is part competition, part off-road drive and part club-type social. Add to this mix, the opportunity of raising monies for our chosen charities, it quickly becomes apparent this is an event of substance and worthy of support.

Together with the road run itself, the Landy Rally itinerary for 2011 includes ... the official start in Maastricht, Holland, a road run through Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, the Black Forest in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Lichtenstein, Switzerland, tackling the 48 hairpin bends of the Stelvio Pass in Italy - voted "Best Driving Road in the World" by BBC2's Top Gear motoring programme - gentle off-road driving on normally closed pistes at Val d'Isére 2,500m up in the French Alps (at 200 hectares, it is both the biggest and highest off-road site in Europe), a fair amount of remote tracks to tackle in the Spanish and French Pyrénées (the equivalent of our greenlaning), fun 'n' games at a French Off Road Centre with local off-roaders, all finishing up with a prestigious prize-giving dinner to look forward to back at Calais. Plus, a host of novel daily tasks to be completed en route in order to gain points for the competitive side of the event where trophies and cash prizes await the winning teams. Join in the tasks or merely come along for the ride, it's completely up to you. Whatever the reason, there is safety in numbers and the camaraderie is second to none!!!

Make no mistake, although it isn't against the clock,
Landy Rally is a full-blooded competition, not simply a leisurely tour of Europe. The non-damaging aspect of the Charity Drive (i.e 'non-extreme' off-roading) still allows participants to have darn good fun without wrecking their vehicles. It is quite simply an event that any true 4x4 enthusiast would love to be involved in.
